Skin Health

With summer here it’s time to think of our skin. You can spend a great deal of money on skin care products, expensive creams and make up which work on the surface, but to really make your skin glow it helps to work from the inside out.

Get your vitamin C

Vitamin C enhances the quality and healing of connective tissue while improving your absorption of other nutrients. Bioflavonoids are present in all natural sources of vitamin C, and these bioflavonoids help improve the action and absorption of vitamin C.

Vitamin C also provides antioxidant protection which in turn guards skin from damaging free radicals that promote premature ageing and dryness. Vitamin C helps boost healthy collagen production to give you firmer skin and stronger hair. Get your dose from papaya fruit, citrus, strawberries, tomatoes, bell peppers, and most fresh fruit and vegetables. Or why not try our Baobab Powder? It contains 6 x more vitamin C than an orange!

Drink plenty of water

Water helps keep your skin hydrated, which helps expand collagen and minimize the appearance of wrinkles and dry skin. It also improves your body’s ability to detoxify more efficiently, which takes a load off your skin and improves its vibrancy. If you don’t like plain water add your favourite fruits or herbs to your water bottle to give it that extra boost!

Amino Acids

Amino acids, the building blocks of protein, are essential for almost all components of your skin, muscles and connective tissue. Our body puts them together to create muscle, (which our body can make some from scratch) but these are non-essential amino acids, we have to obtain the essential amino acids from food and supplements. Be sure to eat complete sources of protein, and by that we don’t mean meat! Which can be very acid-forming. You’ll find these aminos in nuts, seeds, and dark leafy greens—sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, Brazil nuts, sesame seeds and wild edible greens. You can also top up or boost your amino acids with protein powders, we recommend plant-based protein powders, as opposed to milk –derived whey, as they are much easier on the digestive tract, highly absorbable, are non – acid forming and are suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

Take on Spirulina

Spirulina is packed with nutrients like vitamins A, B, C, D, and E and is the richest whole-food source of protein. It has amazing beauty benefits for our skin and hair. It will help eliminate all the toxins from your body and skin, and will help keep it hydrated, detoxicated and glowing. Consuming spirulina daily can encourage cell turnover, lead to healthier nails, promote hair growth, and help fight acne.

Why not try KIKI Health’s Spirulina Smoothie Bowl? It’s great for breakfast and really kick starts your day.
