The body needs to maintain a balanced pH level to stay healthy. When we eat acid-forming foods, the body tries to balance the blood’s pH level by releasing alkaline-rich minerals into the bloodstream, such as calcium, phosphorus and magnesium. If we aren’t eating enough alkaline-forming foods, the body has to pull these minerals from other areas in our bodies, which can cause fatigue and compromise the immune system, making us more vulnerable to illness.
Acid-forming foods include most grains, beans, meats, dairy products, fish, fast foods and processed foods. A balanced diet when it comes to pH is considered to be 20-40% acid-forming foods, and 60-80% alkaline-forming foods.
Dehydration, infections, bacterial overgrowth, and other issues can affect a pH test. It’s safe to assume your body is too acidic if you are suffering from a chronic disease or symptoms such as:
Constipation
Salt cravings
Rapid, shallow breath/ difficulty holding breath
Frequent urination
Swelling and bloating
Poor brain function/ brain fog
Poor sleep
How do you make yourself alkaline? Check out our suggestions below.
1. Add the colour green
Foods that contain a high level of chlorophyll, such as spirulina, chlorella, and the juice of wheat grass and other sprouted grains are all extremely alkalising. When your body is struggling to balance its pH on its own it often sacrifices calcium in the process. Therefore, taking such chlorophyll-rich foods promotes increased bone mass. 2. Avocados
Not only are avocados delicious, they have a pH of 8.0, which alkalises the body and helps to neutralise acidic foods in the stomach. Spread some avocado on toast or a sandwich, add it to a salad, or make some homemade guacamole! Check out our mint, pea and avocado dip recipe: https://kiki-health.com/mint-pea-and-avocado-dip/
3. Alkaline Infusion
The alkaline minerals in our Alkaline Infusion have a neutralising effect so that your body regains its natural balance and reveals a more luminous and healthy body. Indulgent sweetness and flavours of citrus and sherbet. Delicious to drink on its own with water, or as the base of a green juice or smoothie, this is a sweet treat for fruity lovers alike. 4. Lemons
Lemons taste acidic, but when digested, they are actually transformed into an alkalising substance for the body. Add a few slices of lemon to warm water first thing in the morning.
5. Coconuts
Coconuts are extremely alkaline and they have been considered to be a miracle food for their many other health and beauty benefits. You can enjoy drinking coconut water, cook with coconut oil or coconut milk, or eat fresh coconut meat. Coconuts are a great source of energy, improve digestion, bowel functions, and support tissue repair and do much more. 6. Almonds
Almonds and almond milk are great sources of alkalinity. They help to lower cholesterol levels, improve brain function, aid in healthy digestion and leave the body perfectly balanced.

7. Reduce your stress levels
Stress messes with your body in intense ways. When you’re stressed out, the digestive system shuts down and toxic acids don’t get naturally eliminated. When there is a buildup of toxins in the body, your body stores these acids in your fat cells. So make sure you add yoga, meditation, deep breathing, and any other stress-relieving activities to your daily routine.
